No one wants to see their homes dirty and untidy. One of the things in your home susceptible to becoming dirty is your siding and since it can be seen in plain view, it’s very important that you clean it every few months.
In this post, roofing contractor Carolina Custom Exteriors explains how to properly clean your James Hardie® Fiber Cement Siding.
Big storms and strong winds allow dust and dirt to cling to your siding. To get rid of it, simply grab a soft cloth or a soft brush, and your garden hose. If you’re using a brush, brush the dirt and dust from the siding’s surface and rinse the area with your garden house. For the cloth method, on the other hand, soak the cloth in water, then wipe the area in a side to side motion until it’s clean. Afterwards, rinse the area with clean water once more.
Oil, Grease or Other Organic Contaminants
Surprisingly enough, oil and grease can affect your siding. To clean it, grab a soft cloth, a bucket and your garden hose. Fill the bucket with a mixture of mild liquid dishwashing soap and water before soaking your cloth in the soapy water.
Once it’s saturated, use it to clean the siding and rinse the cloth frequently. When your siding is completely covered in soap, rinse the area with your garden hose. Alternatively, if you feel you’re not up to the task, you can always call a siding contractor to help you clean it.
Mold and Mildew
Before getting started, make sure to inspect the planks, panels or shingles of your siding. This is because mildew can resemble dirt and you may accidentally use the wrong cleaning method if you don’t determine it properly. If you are facing a mold and mildew problem, grab a soft cloth or sponge, a mildew specific cleaner and your garden hose.
Once you have what you need, lightly scrub the mildew infected area while carefully following the instructions of the mildew cleaner. Afterwards, simply use the garden hose to rinse the area and you now have a clean siding.
